NORDICMODERN's collection of handwoven Vibeke Klint rugs is created in northern India. The production workshop with associated dyehouse, which uses only organic colors, has been family-owned for 3 generations with proud craft traditions, in-depth experience with weaving techniques and a solid knowledge of materials. Together we select the most suitable yarn qualities and material compositions.
Handweaving is a profession that has traditionally been male-dominated in India. It requires physical strength to weave, not least the larger rugs, where 2 men work synchronously next to each other.
The simple, minimalist patterns that Vibeke Klint designed require a precision that only the best and most experienced weavers can deliver. Thus, only "master weavers" produce NORDICMODERN's collection of original Vibeke Klint designed rugs.
Unlike Danish weavers, all Indian weavers are specialized in their own field; One sets up the complex chain (the vertical threads on which the rug is woven), others are specialists in flat weaving, others again in weaving in warp repp technique, just as there are specialists in finishing and braiding the warp with braids at the start and end of a rug.
To ensure that the quality lives up to the durability and precision of the original Vibeke Klint rugs, some of Denmark's most skilled and experienced weavers have trained the Indian team of weavers in Danish techniques, such as extra-long end attachments. This exchange of experience has been of great benefit to both parties, and the respect for the profession that the Indian weavers experienced from the Danish weavers is evident in the quality of their production.
